Nationwide Recruitment of Retail Sales Staff
Virgin Mobile has enjoyed outstanding success since its' creation in 1999. In 2003, to capitalise on this growth, the business launched its own retail sales operation, which has now grown to over 130 outlets around the UK. This has required the recruitment of sales advisors, capable of selling the Virgin Mobile proposition and who can deliver the excellent customer service associated with the Virgin brand.
Academy were asked to design, develop and deliver an end-to-end assessment and selection process. This began with an analysis of the values and competencies required for success in the roles. At the 1st stage candidates were telephone interviewed by experienced assessors to see how they measured against these competencies. Successful candidates then passed to a half-day assessment event in each of the hiring locations. These were designed to further probe into candidates’ abilities and potential. Ability tests, to assess basic numeric and communication skills, were combined with a sales focussed personality questionnaire to establish background information on each candidate. These were supported by competency based structured interviews and group role-play exercises to produce a broader picture of the candidates. Based on this evidence Virgin Mobile were able to make offers at the end of each event. The qualities of the staff recruited have enabled Virgin Mobile to deliver a 1st class customer experience within a highly competitive market and to exceed their own business expectations. To date over 300 staff have been hired.
