A Programme for fast-track managers

One of the world’s largest engineering services companies requested a programme designed to fast-track managers early in their careers to fulfil the requirements of the succession plan.

The participants were challenged to:
  • raise their managerial visibility and credibility
  • realise their own organisational leadership capability and influence
  • take more ownership of and contribute to the ongoing development of the corporate strategy
  • simplify and improve business processes
  • develop a consistent approach to performance management.

Ten managers were put through an eighteen month programme consisting of leadership and management development activities, interspersed with one to one coaching to ensure that they identified and overcame any barriers that would prevent them from achieving their goals. The group were also challenged to develop an action learning set so that their new skills and knowledge were fully utilised back in the workplace.

The learning methods included:
  • interactive group sessions
  • peer and tutor feedback
  • 1:1 coaching sessions to support behavioural change

The benefits to the organisation include the following:
  • the group have developed a wider perspective on management and leadership issues
  • participants have made the transition from a technical role to a managerial role
  • the group have created changed through pockets of good practice.
